Action card

A card designed to either hinder an opponent's progress or provide advantages to your teammates.

Ascend

means to progressively swim slower in each subsequent repetition within a set.

Base interval (BI)

standard time set for completing a swim repetition, including both the swim and rest periods

Bet

You can bet points on your victory before action cards are played. Limit is your bank. At least 100 - mandatory. If you lose with 0 points you go down to a negative score of -100.

Build Down

refers to gradually decreasing your pace or speed over a set by 25.

Build Up

refers to gradually increasing your pace or speed over a set by 25.

Challenge card

A card that presents a specific challenge for players to complete, detailing the required action, the adjusted base interval, the minimum distance to be swum, and the points earned upon successful completion.

Coach

A designated adult responsible for making decisions and identifying mistakes.

Descend

means to progressively swim faster in each subsequent repetition within a set.

Dice Roller

Person who rolled the dice this turn.

Drill

specific exercise or technique designed to improve a swimmer's skills, form, and efficiency in the water.

Forfeit

The act of voluntarily giving up or surrendering in a game or challenge, often resulting in a loss or penalty for the player or team.

M - (Individual Medley)

A swimming event in which an individual swimmer completes equal distances of four different strokes in the following order: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle.

Interval

A set period of time within which a swimmer must complete a repetition, including both the swim and the rest time before starting the next repetition.

Hard 25

A swim of 25 meters or yards performed at maximum effort or speed.

Kick

A swimming drill or technique focusing on the movement of the legs to propel the swimmer through the water, practiced separately from the full stroke to improve leg strength and efficiency.

Last Team Standing

The last swimmer on a team who is still able to complete the interval wins the round.

Medley Relay

A relay race in which each team member swims a different stroke in the following order: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle.

Neg. Split

A negative split in swimming refers to completing the second half of a distance faster than the first half.

Non-Freestyle

Any swimming stroke other than freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Penalty

A point deduction due to incorrect performance, such as improper turns, underwater pullouts, or other technical errors.

Players

The individuals participating in the game, each taking on roles, completing challenges, and competing to win.

Pos. Split

A positive split in swimming means completing the first half of a race faster than the second half.

Pull

A swimming drill or technique focusing on the arm movements of a stroke, often performed with a pull buoy to isolate and strengthen the upper body.

Repetition (Rep)

A single instance of a swim distance or drill that is repeated multiple times within a set, helping swimmers build endurance and improve technique.

Reverse IM (RIMO)

A swimming event in which an individual swimmer completes equal distances of four different strokes in the reverse order: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly.

Round

A segment of the game during which players complete a series of tasks or challenges, after which scores are tallied and the next segment begins.

Set

A series of repetitions (reps) completed in succession during a swim practice, often structured around a specific goal or focus, such as endurance, speed, or technique

Streamlined

Underwater body position after diving or pushing off the wall which maximizes swim speed and efficiency

Swim

default stroke is Freestyle unless you have to roll Stroke Dice.

Swim-off

A tiebreaker race between two or more swimmers to determine the final placement or winner, usually held at the end of a meet or round.

Technical flaws

Errors in performance that apply to specific aspects of swimming, including legal turns, Red Die effort requirements, and breathing patterns.

The top three finishers in a race or challenge,

Turn

The technique used to reverse direction at the wall during a swim race, including proper execution of flip turns, open turns, and legal touch requirements for each stroke.
